THE BOOK - FACES OF THE WORLD

"Was this the face that launch'd a thousand ships?"
This famous line was penned towards the end of the Sixteenth
Century by the English dramatist and poet, Christopher Marlowe. In
his Elizabethan drama "Doctor Faustus", Marlowe's protagonist,
uttered those memorable words when the Devil, Mephistopheles,
showed Faustus the image of Helen of Troy, who was reputed to be the most beautiful woman in history.

Such was her beauty that, according to Greek mythology, Helen's
abduction from her first and rightful husband, Menelaus, by the handsome, and soon to be second husband, Paris, led to the launching of the thousand ships, and the beginning of the ten-year Trojan War.

Faces form the theme for this book. It is one man's compilation of photographs, of facial portraits which Al Sadrpour has spent thirty years compiling this collection. Thousands of rolls of film were expended and thousands of miles were traveled in order to gather the material that made this book possible. But no matter the degree of satisfaction he feels at now being able to share his experiences with us, it pales by comparison with the warmth and pleasure he derived from meeting and forming a trusting bond with each of his subjects. As a result of this kinship, Al is dedicating this book to those who made it possible, those new found friends who allowed him to photograph them.
